The project will focus on the discovery of knowledge predicting the function of proteins in order to allow a better understanding and treatment of diseases and design of more effective medical drugs. The knowledge discovery activity will be performed by automatic data mining (University of Kent) and classification methods (Université du Littoral) based on bio-inspired algorithms (swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms). This involves the pooling of complementary expertise of the French and English teams, and therefore the results of each team will be continuously fed back to the other team via meetings, email, phone conversations, etc. to create a genuinely cross-border project. |
